Provence Culinary Retreat
Known for its gorgeous scenery, beautiful and extensive history…and of course delicious cuisine, Provence is the perfect location for a culinary retreat in which you’ll enjoy wine tours, wine tasting, and hands-on cooking classes with one of the region’s most experienced chefs. Come experience the magic of Provence as you settle into an authentic 17th century style Manor located right between the communes of Orange and Avignon. Be guided through the culinary expertise of Chef Pierre as you shop like the locals and learn to cook some of the region’s most exquisite dishes. Your Provence Culinary Retreat will take place at La Bastide des Princes and will continue on through the Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a location known as the seat of the papacy through the 14th century.

La Bastide des Princes is a charming bed & breakfast set within an authentic 17th century Manor. Old stone walls and a hectare of grounds give you peace and tranquility at the center of the Provence region of France. Conveniently located between Orange and Avignon, this beautiful location will give you access to fabulous French destinations such as the Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a historic remnant of when the Papacy was relocated to Avignon. The accommodations will include all of the comforts of a three star hotel and breakfast served every morning either at the arbour or dining room.

Welcome Dinner

You will arrive at the train station of Beautiful Avignon where you will be given transportation from the station to La Bastide des Princes. On the night of arrival, you will receive a delicious Welcome diner prepared by La Bastide des Princes’s expert chef, Pierre Paumel. Chef Pierre has had an international gastronomic career but has returned to his Provencal roots and will delight you with his expert cooking of delicious regional cuisine.

Visit the market of Roquemaure, the way the locals do it, and shop for all the goods you’ll need for your first, hands-on cooking class with Chef Pierre Paumel. Despite a national and international gastronomic career which includes the opening of a three star restaurant in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Chef Pierre has settled down to a comfortable position as chef at La Bastide des Princes where he will be passing on to your all the wonderful tips and tricks he has picked up over the years. After you’ve finished your class, enjoy all the wonderful dishes you’ve cooked as part of your lunch meal.

Visit Beautiful Avignon

Avignon is a beautiful French commune located in southeastern France, right off of the banks of the Rhône River. Home to Palais des Papes (The Palace of the Popes) where Popes such as Pope Clement V and Pope Innocent VI lived in the early 14th to early 15th centuries, Avignon is full of beauty, history and tradition. While you’re visiting Avignon, have dinner at one of the many authentic French restaurants and then head back to the hotel to rest up for your next activity.

You will visit the Gigondas wine area, a southern Rhône wine region wine with Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée certification. Here you will be guided through the Gigondas wine cellar and taste some of southern France’s best red wines. Take a break for lunch at one of the many local restaurants and then visit two of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s most renowned wine cellars. After the tour of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, you will have dinner at this historic local and then head back to La Bastide des Princes fully wined and dined.

For your second hands-on cooking class with Chef Pierre, you will visit the market of Orange to purchase all the necessary ingredients. Orange is another town in Provence, France with a rich history. Originally a Roman area, Orange was lived in by veterans of Rome’s Second legion. Today, you can visit roman ruins as well as contemporary and traditionally French locals such as the weekly market where you will be shopping. Once you’re done cooking, eat the dishes you’ve learned to make for lunch and then relax for the rest of the day before heading out for dinner.
