Cape Breton's Culinary Treats
Can you imagine being swept back in time to an incredible inn perched on the edge of breath-taking land, overlooking the stunning Atlantic ocean? Gaze across the water at historic Fortress Louisbourg, and then close your eyes as you listen to Maritime sounds preparing you for an experience like you've never had before. Start your day with a hearty Country Breakfast, before heading out to explore the beautiful historic town of Louisbourg. Louisbourg was once a token, traded back and forth between the French and English forces. And what a token it was! Home to the impressive Fortress Louisbourg, once the most extensive and expensive European fortress in North America. It still stands today, restored to its former glory, as a memorial to the proud history of this town.

Louisbourg is located on Cape Breton Island, rated the "number one island to visit in North America" and "number three in the world" by Travel + Leisure magazine. Upon returning from your exploration of one of North America's best kept secrets, you'll join your hosts, Linda and Tom, as you learn some culinary secrets at Point of View.  Over the next few days, you'll relax and enjoy the simple lifestyle that is pure Maritimes including a traditional Maritime Kitchen Party, where you'll roar with laughter during a Cape Breton themed evening. Venture over to the Fortress and dine like Nobility at a wonderful Dinner Theatre one evening. You're sure to make memories that you'll treasure forever and gain insight into why Canadians are so proud of their long, rich history. All this and cooking too!

Hands-on Cooking Experience

Hands-on Cooking Experience

Much more than just a cooking class! You shed the remnants of the 21st century and transform yourself with period clothing to begin your trip back to life in the New World. Where else can you actually interact so closely with the “men who go down to the sea” with empty hands, but return with over- flowing nets of the freshest fish possible? Feel the salty breeze upon your face as you talk with the fishermen about their watery quests and their daily lives. You will choose your future dinner from among their catches and after choosing your prize, you will be instructed by your host in the age old methods of outdoor cooking. Once the fires have been stoked outside and the smell of the fire is still in your nostrils, journey inside where you’ll put on an apron and learn the old traditional recipes from years past, followed by a feast and entertainment, learn how to prepare the traditional accompaniments to your seafood feast. The class is sure to hold some surprises to ensure that you’re in for a delightful time. After this amazing opportunity you’ll never want to see a frozen fish stick again!
Beggars' Banquet

Beggars' Banquet

At this banquet you will enjoy a tantalizing evening of the lobsters and crabs you have chosen and prepared yourself, along with all of the fixings. Your feast will be peppered with storytelling of traditional Louisbourg tales and fables. Indulge in the rich history of the area; everything from the past glories of the Louisbourg Fortress to the everyday details of life among the families and tradesmen. You will experience first hand every aspect of their lives from the wardrobe to the traditional cuisine. Dressed in your own 1700’s attire, you will be invited to dine and dance while Linda and her 18th century style musicians entertain and delight you. After a night like this you will certainly have another great story and some fantastic new recipes to share around your own table upon returning home!
Dinner Theatre: Historic Fortress Louisbourg

Dinner Theatre: Historic Fortress Louisbourg

Meet your host at Gate 2 of the Fortress at 6:00 PM to step back in time to the 1700s in the New World. Served by re-enactors dressed in period costume, your meal choice of either salmon or chicken will be a reflection of upper class dining in the 18th century. Here, rich merchants, landowners and political figures of the 1740s would have met for elegant cuisine and a comfortable atmosphere, free of the lower class ruffians who plagued their daily lives. Show off your good breeding and manners as you skillfully manipulate a full set of cutlery instead of a single spoon and shared knife as used in the commoner’s restaurants. Bask in the New World ambiance surrounded by elegant reproduction furnishings, linens and décor. During the meal, you will be entertained by an original light-hearted musical comedy, performed up close and personal. Eat. Drink. Be Merry!
