A Taste of Abruzzo - Cooking in Historic Carunchio
Abruzzo wines will amaze you with their body, Abruzzo food will surprise you with its bold flavors, and Abruzzo extra virgin olive oil will impress you for its sweetness and smoothness. This region will also astonish you for its hospitality, the old fashioned artisan products and much more. The region is green and untouched. In a way, it's a shame that Italy's greenest region does not get a lot of international recognition; but on the other hand our guests enjoy the non-touristic feel when they come to visit. Enchanting and majestic, Abruzzo is Italy's best-kept secret. Step back in time and discover truly traditional, non-commercial Italian cooking in the foothills of the Apennine Mountains. Surrounded by hills and valleys as rugged yet peaceful as the people living in them, you will learn to cook in the timeless tradition so deeply embedded in the hearts of the locals. It is truly a unique experience working with ingredients so authentic and flavors so delicately preserved.
Palazzo Tour d'Eau - For One (Dbl Occ)
Completely restored in 2002, Palazzo Tour d’Eau is the ideal place to stay for anyone looking to experience the simplicity and beauty of this historic and luxurious residence. Shortly afterwards, a visit to an Olive Mill will illuminate how olives are pressed into oils of various grades. You will also learn sampling techniques paired with regional breads. After a leisurely lunch at the palace, you'll rest up for an afternoon cooking class. This hands-on class will explore the basic ingredients of Abruzzo cuisine by creating some of delicious appetizers that highlight the region. The theme for this class is to prepare fun appetizers and be able to use them when returning back home. Everyone will dine on these tasty creations in traditional Italian style, slowly and in good company!
Pasta Making Class | Wine Pairing Class
On this morning you will learn how much fun and utterly delicious making pasta at home can be, in a variety of colours and shapes. Experienced chefs will teach you all the tricks so that it turns out great every time. You will be amazed by the variety: pasta alla chitarra, gnocchi, cavatelli, stuffed pasta and so on. After lunch, it will be time for a wine pairing class. You will be sampling more than a few great Abruzzo wines, then learn how to pair them all with food and wine – lead by the Palazzo’s own sommelier.
Vasto Excursion, Sightseeing and Organic Laboratory Tour
Enjoy a trip to the Adriatic Coast in Vasto for a little sunbathing, shopping, and a sightseeing tour of the coast's unique "Trabocco" fishing houses. Depending on the weather and the season, you may be able to enjoy a fishing experience at the Trabocco, an old fishing house sitting in the middle of the sea – a real special treat. Shoe shopping seems to be a national sport in Italy, and you will find a huge selection in the local boutiques and outlets. Then it’s on to visit an organic cosmetic lab that makes soap and body lotions from olive oil and goat’s milk – an amazing sensation on your skin.
Bell Foundry and Cheese Making Tour | Pizza Making Class
Get ready for another excursion – a tour to Agnone in the region of Molise, where you can watch old-world production of mozzarella, ricotta cheeses and cacio cavallo. Then you will all visit an ancient bell foundry where you will learn about each phase of manufacturing these unique instruments that are created for the Vatican City. After a leisurely lunch and small break, you will learn how to make pizza with a variety of vegetables, meats and cheeses – in the Abruzzo way. Taste and discover how these ingredients are a big part of the Abruzzese cuisine.
